4050 JD tractor

I'm gaining oil in the crankcase. Why? Is it hyd. oil or fuel? The tractor was just split because the PTO clutch needed replaced. Thanks for your time & knowledge.

If the hydraulic level is going down, there it is. If the fuel is used way more than normal, there it is. Jim

As Jim mentions, youll first really need to lock down what oil is leaking. Taking an oil sample to your local dealer might help. (Some oil distributors analyze for free or cheap, and Cat dealers are generally really good at this but cost $)

It's most likely diesel fuel hydraulic oil won't go into the engine because the engine oil will go into the hydraulic oil I've had it happen on a 4255

Actually, hydraulic oil CAN and WILL migrate into the crankcase if the flywheel was R+R'd and sealant wasn't used on the bolts that attach it to the crankshaft or if the crankshaft seal has failed/was damaged.
