Online auction and poor internet

Was watching a online auction this morning and it kept going in and out. You could tell they were having problems. I was trying to bid on a one owner John Deere 2510 gas power shift with 2200 original hours. It stopped taking my bids and the tractor sold for $7500 which was a steal for the condition and low hours. I guess I have no way of knowing how far the other bidder would have went or who else was having the same online problems as me. Sure would have been a nice tractor to add to my collection. I figured it was a $10,000 tractor. Tom

It really works two ways. I was at an auction a few months ago. The internet went down and they stopped the auction. It was 100 degrees out and they expected everyone standing there to wait. It took them between half an hour to 45 minutes to get the internet running again. By that time people got fed up and left. They lost a good portion of the crowd waiting around.

I was bidding online once and had put in a maximum bid beforehand. when the bidding hit my max I clicked to go higher but it would not go higher and I lost out.

Internet died as I had the high bid on an item. I was there live. They had to wait 10 minutes or so to get rebooted. I was concerned a live person had time to reconsider, but the Internet bidder said no when they got back on and he sold it to me pretty quick he didnt rush around. I thought that was pretty good, almost an honest auctioneer! :)

I'm not an auction fan to begin with. This just makes it worse. I was bidding on a tractor on line, when it sold for less than I bid. A lot less. I don't trust any of it.

Put in your maximum bid to start with and fuhgetaboutit. If you think you might lose because your 'maximum' isn't high enough, well you need to raise your maximum to what you're REALLY willing to pay.

If this was a live online auction, not sure they allow max bids (never been on one). If a regular with a closing time, totally agree with max bid and stop trying to snipe. One thing I learned the hard way, if the item has a reserve and it isn't met, be careful with your max bid. If it meets the reserve, your bid will go to the reserve no matter what the previous bid is. In my case, the tractor was at $1800 and my max was $3800. The reserve was $3750. Needless to say, mine was the last bid even though there were 3 days left. I got the tractor but can pretty much guarantee you I paid too much.
