My brother and I have a 1086 & a 4440. We still use them. Which is better? Depends on what the east at hand is and what time of year..

CNH is the hands down winner of being bought and sold...they dont even know what color to make the parts boxes anymore... they went with white so they dont have to rebox everything when they get sold next week.

Hey Mel--Heard your parking the G and going for D power!!! Your new ride???---Tee

Had 2 of them things at one time. Took a gal of gas to get them started and when they did start you were to tired out from cranking it to enjoy it.

Brother works for Red and need a part from the Blue place, surprised him even that the boxes were the same.

My fuel cap on a 4020 had been replaced with a black after market and had started leaking. I went to the JD dealer counter and ordered a replacement OEM. He brings out this box and starts ringing up the order. I idly open the box and here is this RED fuel cap.....I protest.....he remarked that since the fuel on this tractor is located where the radiator is normally, you need a RED cap to distinguish fuel from water..............dahhhhhhhh..... OK. So then I get home and pull out my I&T manual and sure....nuff, the picture on the front shows a 3010 with the red cap at the rear. Live and learn.

Back in 1960 John Deere seized the number 1 place from IH. When IH tried to catch up, Deere released the 20 series tractors as a final knockout punch. All the companies just deteriorated, IH merged with Case, MM, Oliver, Cockshut, and White became a big company, Allis became part of AGCO, MH and Ferguson joined, and Ford left the tractor business.
John Deere is still the number 1 tractor company out their, both in sales and quality. The other companies didn't see it coming, because John Deere released the 330-830 series with a big fanfare.
The two-cylinder tractors used a lot less parts and were more durable. Farmers liked the fact that all the adjustments could be done while standing and the comfortable operators platform.
With the new Generation tractors they were way ahead with their comfort and ease of operation. In fact, all the companies used JDs ROPs design because of a deal with IH.

no matter the brand they all break n cost too much to repair.but ihc n deere are better than most all around. we got both n i dont mind using eiter brand

I met a farmer on an airplane while flying back from Florida.
He's from N Indiana and farms in N Indiana and Argentina.
He claimed to Farm over 7000 acres.
He also says each year he trades in half his JD's. It's cost effective, his 2 year old JDs are worth a lot.
He claims he also gets a tax right off.

So some people look at all angles, can afford new tractors, and don't farm with old equipment.

On the other hand if you farm on weekends and work 40 hours to support your hobby you have no choice but to use old equipment.

Terre Haute has a very good CaseIh/Kubota dealer.
JD dealers sell mostly construction equipment.
