The Fergies were better than the Fords but still not much of a tractor in a ford. Having driven most of the N series I don't see how they sold even one. Can't remember which is which on them but the brake and clutch on the same side seems stupid to use for stopping or trying to hold it in place on a job. Just a peg to set your foot on would get confusing with the pedals. The Dexta diesel was ahead of the N series models.

They liked the Ns because they were comparing them to horses, not our modern tractors.

Showcrop, funny how folks hate on the N
series, yet folks still buy them and
use them. Still a great little tractor!
It still does exactly what if was
intended to do!

Mine continues to work after 70 years and has worked hard all it's life.
Has been used on 4 farms and still gets the job done.

Nice winter scene! Good puzzle.

Feeding and caring for 2 horses all year vs the cost of running one of these only when needed - turned out to be a heck of a deal, could run it all day to get work done.

70 years later a lot of extra features got added to make machines even nicer to use. Some might argue the past 15 years we have gone the opposite direction, but I
suppose they said that 70 years ago too.......

With the pedals adjusted correctly on the 9N/2N, pushing the clutch down part way disengaged the clutch.
Pushing it further down also applied the brake on the left side.
The left brake could still be used for steering assist by itself.
Ford moved the pedals for the 8N and later because people didn't (or couldn't at the time) read their manual so they had the same complaint.
I've owned several of them where the left brake was frozen up because people didn't adjust them correctly and they didn't get used.
