My Grandmothers Dad used to dig a load cover with the leaves to protect from freezing over night. then when he got back from the plant would load them and then dig another load and cover again. Had to travel about half way across the county to unload them. My other Grandpa from my dad's side used to with one other guy unload train cars of beets at a rate of a car per day. Don't know how many ton were on a car. I do know they had for the wagons a spot that they had the wagons tilted to the side so it was pretty much just a shove them off to unload. I suppose the train cars must have been something like that too.

(quoted from post at 06:56:36 11/17/22) Those guys were true men.
