they said the thrust on Artimes was like 51 747's taking off. could run quite few cars for that amount of fuel wasted.

Tough to use Liquid Oxygen and Hydrogen (safely) in a pickup. Some of us think it is the correct thing to do. Exploring beyond is intrinsic to humans. If it wasn't the world would look much different! Jim

The gas tanks on the booster rockets held 537,000 gallons liquid hydrogen. If that costs the same as diesel it would be 5.59 a gallon here. I would guess liquid hydrogen a little higher than that. I think that fuel got the artemis to 17,500 mph , then the boosters were jettisoned. They had to use other engines on the space capsule to get to the 22,500 mph needed to head toward the moon. The announcer at liftoff said the speed of artemis was 128 mph ----30 seconds after lift off and accelerating. Well, I guess so. I think the spacecraft will be at the moon in 7 days.

Remember back in the 70s and early 80s all the products that were advertised as having Space Age Tech? Government research that pushes the boundaries leads to new opportunities in private businesses. Better use for the money than some other government programs.

It does provide a lot of jobs for New Orleans space center that builds the rockets core stage that is then tested at the Stennis space center in south west Mississippi. I posted a while back when they did the test at Stennis. From what I can remember the test could be heard 50 miles away.

The federal gov't never should have wasted the money to build the Cumberland Road. The canals were working just fine.

Or railroads!

Or engine powered ships!
Sails worked just fine hauling people and goods all over the world.
FOR FREE, no government, tax payer subsidies either!

I don't see it as a waste, probably because I am an avid space nut. We need to have bases on the moon and a space station orbiting it. Then an expedition to Mars is more practical. The technology developed for a project like that will have many profitable uses on Earth.

You're right David .... once our planet is no longer habitable we'll need some place to go and the moon or Mars might be a good choice.

Always like to think my wasted tax dollars are for space programs, better than giving it to people that don't work or illegals !
