D15

Just got this tractor from family of deceased friend, no one knows anything about it. Power steering was an option. How do I find out if so equipped? I added fluid, however unlike others I know this one doesn't have an external pump and belt. It is shaft driven and pump would be inside fluid tank. If it worked I'd know it is there...
How do I confirm it is actually on this tractor? Then I can proceed toward troubleshooting (probably replace that pump). Thank you so much for anyone willing to educate me out of this other rabbit hole.

power steering on a d-15 included a cylinder on the right side of the engine between the block and the side rail. The pump is above it and on the right side toward the front. The reservoir is the front unit and lines are visible from front unit to the pump, pump to cylinder etc. That's the system I know about.Good tractor tho.

Pull the front grill screen, unscrew the tall metal thing (breather) in the middle of the bolster to check oil.Should be red transmission fluid over top of the gears.Hope you don't need a pump, very difficult
to find.

Here is a picture of the power steering pump on a D14, the D15 is similar. The cylinder is below the pump, between the engine and frame rail. If it doesn't have power steering the pump, tubes, and cylinder will not be there, just open space. Those pumps are not readily available, so if you have one that works treat it right. A premium UTHF can be used for lube in the front bolster which is the oil reservoir for the power steering.

So if the power steering pump is so hard to find why
would a person not build a mount and run a chev
power steering pump off the front pulley. Thats
what I would do
