Case 580D 207 engine

My son's Case 580D spun a rod bearing. Before we go pulling it apart I want to pull the injector pump but don't want to mess up the timing. What should we do to get it set before removal? Engine is out on pallet ready for tear down.

Timing is the least of your worries, I'd yank it off and worry about timing later. There should be a timing/valve setting decal on the valve cover if you want to align the pump timing marks at the correct flywheel location.

Highlighting your timing marks before you take things apart wirh a white paint pen helps a bunch when reassembling.
