for serving our country, especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice. I'm not a veteran, I was number 361 in the 1970 draft lottery.. Both Grandfathers, my dad and his 4 brothers, 2 uncles, many cousins, father in law and 2 brothers in law all served. Thank You All!!!

I'll second that. Thank you veterans! I was number 25 in the '72 draft, was within days of being called up when the Viet Nam war ended and they ended the draft. Would have gladly served but considered myself fortunate that I didn't have to.

On my 18th Birthday as the law required, I went to Houston and signed up for the draft. I immediately went across town and joined the USAF. I didn't want to be in the infantry. 9 years of enlistment changed my life for the better...came out with a wife and kids plus an education and an offer of employment from a Fortune 500 defense contractor with whom I served 36 years and am enjoying the gracious retirement.....whadda deal!

Yes, thanks to all who served and who are currently serving!

I was never in the military, came close though. My lottery number was right on the edge, but I never got called or had to go for a physical.

I didn't come from a military family. Not even my dad was in the service, and he was prime draft material! He tried to join the Navy, and they turned him down, the Army sent 2 draft notices and they rejected him! He would never say why.

Had some uncles that served, one went ashore in Normandy! He survived, but came back with some pretty serious PTSD. He would not talk about his experience, but continued to serve as a deputy sheriff when he recovered. One of the finest men I ever knew!

In 64 the Vietnam war was going on. I was four years out of school, I had to make a decision fairly soon on what branch of the military to join. The Navy was my choice. It was a good choice. Quite an adventure for a kid off the farm. Stationed in San Diego, San Francisco, Japan, Philippines, a short stay in Vietnam. My four years were up, and the next Duty station would have been Adak Alaska. No thanks, I got out. Stan
