Hesston 70-66 question

My Hesston 70-66 (AKA Fiatagri) has started to weep hydraulic fluid from a point where a lift arm attaches to the body of the tractor. Anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Any information about the nature of this repair would be greatly appreciated.

That's not an uncommon problem. There are seals there that can be replaced. I would suggest replacing the bearings as well, since excessive play there is a factor in seal life. You will need to drain the rear end and remove the lower housing containing the shaft, bearings and seals.

Thanks Harry. Wonder if you can answer this question. If the lift arms are removed, and the seven supporting bolts removed, will the lower housisg containing the shaft come off unobstructed, or are there internal bits and pieces that have to be dealt with. I really appreciate your help.

No problems. The link for draft control comes down and contacts the shaft, but it won't interfere with dropping the housing. I think i t will only go back one way so no danger there either.

The biggest issue will be to get the outer spacer blocks out. They are tight in their bores, and having been there forty years they probably won't want to come easily. What I have done is reach in and turn the swivel center of the bearing so the bore is sideways. Then using the shaft as a punch, keep smacking until things start to move.

When it finally comes apart, the seals will probably be unrecognizable, so pay attention when installing the new ones. They can be deceiving as to which way they go. There is a seal lip and a wiper lip, and they can be confused.

Everything went well till I encountered a plate that is part of the drawbar support system welded to the underside of the housing containing the shaft and partially covering two of the seven mounting bolts. Is it possible to replace seals and bushings without taking the housing off?
