This is not a Photoshopped picture, it actually happened when an English Electric Lightning suffered engine failure over the test base just outside London.

Those were very potent aircraft, basically two engines one over the other, limited
fuel, rocket armaments, later versions had a cannon pack under the nose, and a
pilot.

At one time they held the world record for a climb to 30,000 feet. They were based
locally and used to escort Russian Bear bombers away from our East Coast. I seem to
remember they took five minutes from the end of the runway to the Bear's wingtip out
over the North Sea.

The Royal Air Force had a display team equipped with Lightnings that flew at air
shows, The Black Arrows, I was at a show, one day when they were doing a formation
landing and the lead aircraft had a tyre blow out. The other aircraft in the
squadron aborted by standing on their tails and going straight up under full
afterburn. The sight and the noise was amazing.

I was in Alaska and an F4 took off one night. He went nearly straight up and watching the exhaust get smaller real quick was interesting, to say the least.

IN ENGLISH BOOK, THE TIGER MOTH STORY, IS SIMILAR FOTO, OVER HANGAR...OF COURSE, ENGLISH ENGINEERS REBUILT HER...HIT LITTLE SLOWER THAN JET, BOTH LIVED, TO TIGER AGAIN...BE BLESSED, GRATEFUL, PREPARED...HAVE FLOWN CDC

I happened to witness nearly the exact same incident about 30 years ago. Id just left my wife and children who had just dropped me off at the Lafayette La airport. I was just beginning my journey to Aberdeen Scotland to go offshore. I was sitting at the bar drinking a beer. Long trip ahead of me. Still had to travel to Houston and Amsterdam then winding up in Aberdeen. As I was looking outside of a the airport window rather large in size I see a private dual prop airplane screaming straight down to earth and crashes nose first in the blink of the eye. Pieces and parts flying apart in a manor which is hard to describe. I soon had to board a jet to Houston. The crash was nowhere near the departing runway. So I guess the control tower did not want to hold up our flight. Never found out what happened. Something Ill never forget. Ive seen too many bad accidents in the past 40 years. Wingnut
