All the talk about rusty gas tank I decided to drain min

The gas in my portable generator was 2 years old and it smelled rotten.

I though I had drained it last year. I guess I didn't.

I have another generator and Jubilee to drain and fill with new gas.

I thought by posting this others might drain their old gas before they ask how to clean the crud out of a gas tank.

I'm a believer in draining old gas vs gas treatments.
Old rotten gas will be blended with new mower gas next year.

I use stabil in all my gas tanks that may sit idle for 6 months or more--including my 70 gallon boat tank

If mine has a plastic tank I leave it drained.
If it is a steel tank I will drain the refill.
Most are vented tanks, so I will place some plastic like visqueen between tank and vented cap.
So that the tank does not breath in humid air.

I use Primrose Protect o lube. Tractors always start up in the spring like they were just ran the day before. One of my Oliver 80s sat for 7 years. It took 7 pulls on the crank and it was running. I used to use Stabil never liked it. Everything was hard to start in the spring. When you're pulling on a crank, hard starting is not a good thing!

Its a good time of year to drain and put in corn free gas, just enough to wash out the carburetor.

I remember reading the bottle once, and as I recall, the bottle has a shelf life of a year or 2. I don't remember about the treated fuel though. I (knock on wood) never have any trouble with gas sitting up to 6 months (the longest my small motors might sit). My gas tractor might sit maybe 6 weeks in the winter, but that's it. I live in northern Kentucky. Mark.
