Compact Kubota engine oil ?

The L3560 we got this spring should have an oil change before the weather gets to snow blowing time. Just wondering what others are using that lives in colder climates. Is 15W40 ok or too thick? We used to use 15W40 in previous farm tractors in winter. Thank you for any suggestions

I'm not an engineer. I just use what the engineers recommend.

Why do diesels use 15w-40 and some new cars use 0w-20, 5w-30?

Whats the manual say? Oil and engine technology has changed a lot from the "only 15w-40 ever" diesel oil days.

have a B7200, which calls for a specific diesel rated 10w30 that is a little expensive. The salesman told me most of his customers use 15w40, so that's what I've been using for the last 22 years.

I had a discussion with my local Kubota dealer on oil he told me that his
dealership uses 10w30 Diesel oil in everything they sell
I use the Ford Motorcraft 10w30 Diesel oil
have not had any trouble with it

What does the owners manual tell you! Do you keep it in a warm garage? Does it have a block heater? All things to consider. We bought a new JD 4600 20 years ago, they recommended 5W30 so that's what we used year around. Now that it has 1300 hours on it and we don't use it in the winter I use only 15W40, and if I do start it in cooler weather I plug it in first.

Yes true enough, Im storing it inside in an unheated shop preferably not plugged in but possibly. Ill ask the dealership when I pick up a filter and use whatever they tell me. I just had some 15w40 but its a pretty thick oil for a compact

Mileage requirements and 0.001 vs 0.01 manufacturing tolerances. My Dodge (Ram) Hemi owner's manual said that 5W-20 (0-20 ok obviously....Mobil 1) was the only oil to use as the oil pump was designed for it....probably high volume vs low volume like tractors/diesels use with their thicker oil....or the 4-8-4 cylinder deactivation system wouldn't work correctly. I had a hard time getting used to that as I have been a heavy oil is better guy all my life.....yeah I know startups are the worst wear items on engines so you need thin oil for that.

Im with the others who said use the manufacturers recommendation. Especially if it is still under warranty. That said 15-w40 has been around for some time and I know some that use that oil in everything on the farm, from their largest diesel tractor to their lawn mowers. I would have a hard time putting 15-W40 in my 2020 Ford 6.7 diesel since Ford recommends 10-W30 for diesels or my JD Gator that uses 0-W something. The moral of the story is things have changed.

Kubota has a lot of info online. You can compare Kubota Canada recommendations to Kubota USA. Canadian recommendations are on pages 89 and 90.

There was a temp scale in the older ones manuals, 5w30 for arctic/canada winter temps, 10w30 covered the normal range of temps, 15w40 for warm climates.

We don't change our oil by seasons so we have used 10w30 and 15w40 in a pinch. I never had a problem starting in the winter.

The premium udt vs regular udt was huge, the premium udt synthetic by far better in -30 c. Regular UDT ridiculous long warm up time in winter unless stored in heated space.

Why pray tell asking here instead of reading the operators manual ?
There is more to choosing motor oil than just 10W-30 vs 15W-40. How the other specs ?

. Pre 2007 diesel oil , post 2007 diesel oil , gasoline rated oil ? Ever heard of API specs ?

(quoted from post at 14:40:55 10/14/22) They recommend 10w30 synthetic so thats what I picked up. Thank you all again!

What B&D is saying is check the API rating. The link to the manual I posted says you need a CJ-4 (Manual page 90). I assume your 10W-30 is diesel rated. If it's CJ-4, you should be ok.

Hope your rings have seated. My preference is not to use syn until I have a few hundred hours under load on the clock, but everyone has their own ideas on this.

(quoted from post at 13:17:39 10/15/22) Thank you , I bought it directly from the dealer, Kubota 10w30,
it has 360 hours on it

Good deal. I switched my 9540 to syn about the same time. Oil is still clean with 20 hrs on it.
