Farmall cub hydraulics not working

I just bought a I think 1953 farmall cub. The seller said the hydraulics didn t work very good and they needed "oiled up". I tried them today and they will not move at all, up or down they won t go down with the engine not running even. It had a sickle bar mower on it so I would think that should be enough weight to move it down. I haven t checked the fluid. I assume you check it with the big plug at the top towards the back on the left side of the reservoir. The plug was very tight and I haven t got it out yet.

(quoted from post at 13:30:25 10/06/22) Yes that is the plug to fill it. Send me an email and I will
provide you access to a lot of documentation for that
machine.
if I click on your profile it does not show an email address

Pumps on touch control systems like the one on the Cub have a tendency to loose oil into the crank shaft due the seal getting bad or the shaft getting worn enough to make it leak past any seal you can put in.
First thing to do is check the oil in the reservoir and if empty see what the oil level is for the engine. There is also a filter in the reservoir that could be plugged up and needs cleaning or replacement. If
the reservoir is leaking from various places there is a rebuild kit available which is mostly o-rings and a couple of gaskets.
