Tractor Supply FEL Lift Cylinders

Hi Everyone,

I have to replace a lift cylinder on my BushHog 2425QT FEL. T.S has one that matches the specs for $250. However, the BushHog official part is over $1k. I know dealers are gonna over charge, but thats a big price difference.

Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the cylinders from Tractor Supply?

Thanks, Tim

Beware of Surplus Center. You might find a good deal on a cylinder there but they NAIL YOU TO THE WALL with shipping. I mean, they'll get you for $50 shipping on a $60 cylinder. I don't live anywhere special to justify that much shipping.

I only buy from there if I can't find it anywhere else.

Tractor Supply cylinders are no better or worse than any other generic tie rod style cylinder anyone else sells.

You're going to find that the TSC cylinder is too short and has the wrong ends on it to fit your loader. Looking at pictures of your loader, the lift rods extend out of the cylinders several inches where a generic tie rod cylinder will not. Make sure you're careful with the TSC cylinder so you can take it back when you find that it won't work.

What's wrong with the bush hog cylinder? Leaking is an easy fix. Bent, or pitted chrome is a whole other situation.

In my opinion, I wouldn't buy anything from tsc. I don't go there, haven't in years, as they never had the part I needed, and if it was, way overpriced anyway. They are
simply an overpriced retrailer of pet food, lawn mowers, clothing, toys, and a limited hardware selection, and certainly nothing to do with tractor parts, though some may
have a limited selection of the Cheena made stuff. Years ago they used to stock items like plow and cultivator parts and a good selection of King Kutter implements. I
advise to look online for a supplier of hydraulic hoses in your local area for those places. Some will even make your custom hose to order if you take the old one with
you, but many stock standard hose sizes and lengths and you can usually find one that will work. Your mileage may vary...

I just had the cylinder rebuilt but the slot the retaining wire sits in is in bad shape. Guy said it may not hold and it didnt. Lasted 4 days. With hydraulic shops having no shortage of work, shop rates are not cheap. Labor rates are high.

I am worried that cylinder from TS may be a little short also. I want it in my hands and checked before I put it on the tractor.

(quoted from post at 04:33:45 09/22/22) Weight not price determines shipping cost, totally cost is what matters.A big cylinder is heavy and long so shipping won't be cheap.

Then explain the $35 shipping charge on a couple of hydraulic fittings, or how other companies can sell the same cylinder at the same price and ship for free.

I would have spot welded the retaining ring in place. If you thought that the only option was replacement, then even if you
damaged it trying to weld it in place, you weren't out anything. Of course the next rebuild may have been impossible.

Or you make a ring to go over the top of the retaining ring and weld that to the cylinder body at the very top, which could be
ground off for the next rebuild. But that's just my opinion.

I bought cylinders from International Hydraulics and bought
rebuild kits with them.

If my memory is correct, the cylinders were made in Ukraine.

I would recommend if you buy an aftermarket cylinder, buy a
repair kit with it..

I will second barn's contention that Sc overcharges on shipping.
I think they have a minimum charge and then add on charges for actual weight and size, etc. The minimum charge being way high for small lightweight stuff.

McMaster-Carr is also high on shipping.

I bought a TSC cylinder. It was from a major cylinder supplier AMA USA. Very good quality, shipped to the store for pickup free. TSC is
acting as a shipping middleman. Best price and most convenient for me.
