hydraulic tank leak

I have a 1855 Oliver that has seen lots of use but I still use it to save better tractors. So I don't want to do any major work. There is a hairline crack in the
hydraulic tank under the seat. all work fine but it does leak. Any magic solution to add to hydraulic oil to seal crack? thanks

I'm not familiar with the tank. If it is cast iron, you have a couple of options: Lower the fluid level so it is below the crack, clean it well with brake/carb cleaner, put some vacuum on it with a shop vac, and suck some JB weld into the crack. Cut the vacuum before you pull all the JB weld all the way thru the crack. #2: Empty the tank, preheat the cast around the crack, and braze or stick weld with nickel rod. Let it cool very slowly, and check for hairline cracks. If its a steel tank, empty it, and carefully weld with a wirefeed, one spot at a time to keep the heat down. Keep the cap off so when it starts on fire it does not explode.

I just placed a post on the crawler forum about hydraulic fluid sealant. From what I have read however , I think it is a gasket restorer.

This is what I used recently. Its a little runny, so should suck into the crack well. It sets quick, and stays a little flexible once fully cured.

If it's a steel tank and it's leaking from a rust pit or three pucky will probably fix it.

If it is leaking from a crack caused by vibration or stress pucky will be a short term fix, at best.

Pull tank flip over weld up holes/cracks or put a plate over whole bottom and weld around edge. Check for leaks and put back on.
