O/T IH 1600 loadstar clutch

My 1974 Ih loadstar 1600 (with the 345 engine) went down on me yesterday, something happened to the clutch or pressure plate. It could have stuck or might have been wore out, i've had the truck 12 years and never had a problem with the clutch. Right now all i know is it needs a clutch kit and possibly more, question i have is...what brand of clutch would be the best to put in it? I'm pretty sure you can't get one through IH any longer, I want to do it the right way and put a good quality clutch in.

I would just go to NAPA or any parts store and get whatever they have or request heavy duty if you want but generally makes the pedal press hard. If you put the run of the mill one in you will probably be long gone before it gives out again. There is also RockAuto.com. If all else fails see the link, they are in Canada but ship to the US. I just ran across them when searching for some other stuff for an old IH truck.
Old IH trucks

What are the symptoms, slipping or not disengaging?

As I'm sure you know, many/most IH medium trucks of that era used a hydraulic master and slave cylinder to operate the clutch, rule out problems there first.

If the actual clutch has failed, likely the flywheel will need to be resurfaced.

Check and see if there's a clutch repair specialty shop within a reasonable driving distance, they could resurface the flywheel and rebuild the clutch, typically NAPA will be one of the most $$$ places to get parts, a clutch shop MAY be the most reasonable.

Just the opposite. Rock Auto is U.S. but they do ship to Canada as I've bought a lot of parts for the 52 Merc through them. I don't think they list any parts for the bigger trucks like the Loadstar. I was searching there for the Eaton axle shift for my 1600 Loadstar and they had nothing for any truck bigger than the 1500 series.

I had a clutch problem with getting a clutch for a '64 v 6 GMC PU. Carried it to ABC Auto, they sent it in and had it resurfaced. Might be your best bet, if it's not messed up.

Rusty, I threw a lot together in that reply and you
misunderstood. If you would have went to the link you
would see that the company I linked is from Alberta,
CAN. I did check and you are correct RockAuto does
not list list the heavier IH trucks. Probably the whole IH
line sheet deal makes supplying parts for IH trucks a
little tricky. I thought at one point I had looked up belts
for a GMC 7000 on there but looks like I was wrong.
Sorry for the confusion.
