Massey Harris Ferguson question .....

Phil's post below with his MH333got me to wondering about a question I've meant to ask before. I think there was a time when the Massey empire was named Massey-Harris-Ferguson, is that correct? Were any tractors or equipment ever badged with the three names?

Yes there was a MHF 50. Even had the MH scalloped hood like the 33s and 44s. I couldn't find a pic but this is what they looked like only with Massey Harris Ferguson on it.

There is a Massey Ferguson 50, a Massey Harris 50 and a Ferguson 50 all the same tractor with different sheet metal. You will often see a set from the same owner at tractor shows. I have a Massey Ferguson 50 and a Massey Harris 50.

Did you have to remind me that the white stuff isn't far off? Ha, winter is coming. One other post mentioned that all three names were on the manufacturing tag .... I don't think anyone has replied yet that the three names showed up on the decals .... not sure. I can't make out your decals too well in the photo.

There is no Ferguson 50. There are 40s. Some people paint the tractor red and use the MF 50 decal. The early MHF has it casted in transmission rear end and other components

Yes it is a Massey Harris 50. Serial number tag and a bunch of castings have M H F on them. It is a great little tractor. Have used it quite a bit.

I've never seen Massey Harris Ferguson on the machinery but they do have that name at the bottom of the ads even as far back as 1954.

So, I'm still confused. I understand the 40/50 thing (the MH 50 turning into a MF 40 in a certain year), but is a badged Massey Harris 50 really a Massey Harris Ferguson? steve

The Ferguson 40, MH 50, and MF 50 are the same CHASSIS, only the tinwork is changed. The LATE MF 50 can also have the twelve speed Multi-Power transmission the other models never had available.

Another ad from 1956. The Massey Harris 50. The only place I see Massey Harris Ferguson mentioned is at the bottom of the ad. I've never heard anybody refer to the machinery as anything other than Massey Harris. Or just plain "Massey".

I agree the MHF never appeared on any decals on any sheet metal. Only stamped on the chassis.

What I've always been curious about is who was responsible for the design of the MH 50/F 40 (and subsequent MF 50, 65, 85, etc.). Was it a combined effort between MH and Ferguson engineers? Clearly they resemble the Ferguson line much more than the MH line. I've always wondered how much input MH actually had in it-- if any.

I think most would agree Sodly that the Ferguson design was much better overall. I'm sure the MH guys knew that, but they did have a lot of corporate marketing expertise which I'm sure was put to use.
