Lucas Electrical Systems

You Brits have a sense of humor. Albeit different than over here you have a sense of humor.

I have driven Triumph motorcycles for 52 years, and they used to call Lucas the Prince of Darkness. I remember meeting a car at night and hitting the dimmer switch and everything went out! The last 2 bikes I've had are the newer generation, and they have flawless electrical systems.

Good one Majorman, have lots of experience on Lucas wiring having had three IH Bradford and five IH Doncaster built tractors on the family farm.
Had a couple electrical fires in the wiring harness over the years and plenty of smoke.

I had a Triumph GT6+ (car) that let the smoke out of the light switch on a night when I could barely see anyway......Could have used that smoke replacement kit then....

I have had a couple BSA Motorcycles in the past, not a bit of trouble with the electrical systems, I have a 61 Triumph TR5 now. I finally had to install an after market electrical system, to get it to run. Stan

Someone once said Edison invented the light bulb and Lucas invented the short circuit.

When I was in high school British cars were what everyone wanted. My 1st car was a 1959 Triumph TR3. 12 volt positive ground Lucas electric. I never had an issue with it. But many friends had Lucas issues on their toys. But I had a host of other failures in the year I had it. Next year 1968 my senior year I got smart and bought a 1965 VW and had no issues all year. Sold that and went on to college.
