Yellow corn

Traveling out of my area today. Passed a field of corn that was absolutely yellow, with some green, the color of safety vasts highway workers wear. Add to that corn was shorter than surrounding fields, and scrawny looking. Educate me. What did I see? Different variety? Disease?

Could be any number of things, but a guess could be lack of nitrogen. Could be because of high prices, loss of N due to wet weather, transitioning to organic practices and not having adequate N, any number of things. Disease could also be an issue.

Is it seed corn that's been sprayed with a desiccant? It's about the time that they'd be picking that. I had to go to New Buffalo about a year ago and they were picking down there this time of year.

I'd say the seed corn season. They start picking seed corn about now around Elkhart IN and north. Picked on the ear then shelled after dry.

Seed corn, with the tassels cut off and dedicated; or sweet corn that didnt get harvested for some reason and was mature/over ripe/ dead.
