Dyno'd 2 tractors

I took the 880 and the 88 to Mt Pleasant to Old Threshers and Monday just before they shut
down, they were letting pto tractors on the dyno instead of just belt driven, so I had
both of them checked. The 880 turned 57 Hp. Not sure what it is rated at but I thought it
was close to 60, so it did pretty good. The 88 is a different story. It's the one that had
a 77 motor in it when I got it. I found a used motor that was supposed to be good several
years ago and finally got it put in this summer. It starts and runs good, curious to see
what it will do. I hooked on and opened it up. He started cranking it down and blue smoke
came out of every place it possibly could and a few it shouldn't. It didn't miss or
sputter, just took care of the bugs for a while, He backed it off and said it made 47 1/2
Hp. I got it home and pulled all of the plugs and ran a compression test. 4 cylinders had
85#, one had 92# and one had 100#. I have another 88 motor, looks like I will be switching
motors again.

There respectable, i got a friend he bought the dyno when out local J.D, dealer changed hands, so i go to his place when i need one tested. Why don't you just put new sleeves and pistons in the one,it will take about the same time.

I just checked overhaul kit on this site, $1025. I have another motor setting in the shed, cheaper to put it in and save the $$ to overhaul the 1550.

When people come by and ask me if I will Dyno a tractor for them, I say yes, just to check Horsepower $25.00. Some say yes, some say no. The ones that say yes, some leave happy and some leave very disappointed. Occasionally they also find they need a new PTO clutch.
