Chisel plow points

Hey everyone,
I run a 10 shank allis chalmers 1600 chisel plow. When I bought it it had new 3 wide chisels that have a slight curve either to the right or left. Would 2 chisels allow me to go deeper since they dont have as much metal to dig in? Does anyone do a combo of 2 in the front and 3 twist in the rear?

been using them twisted spikes for years and years. just put them on so they are not all throwing the dirt the same way. then when that side is worn out flip them over and good to go again.

If you are thinking of extending them down father to dige deeper you will start breaking one of 2 things the shanks or the shovels or both. Just use it with the single shovel on it. It is not a subsoiler. If you want a subsoiler or deep ripper then buy one don't try using that for it as I already said you will be breaking things.

What is preventing you from going deeper? Available HP or you cant get penetration? I have had high traffic areas where my 10 shank slides on the ground before it drops in. If you have enough tractor, try adding some weight to the plow, but that would not be my first choice. Sounds like you are due for a deep ripping.

I agree with the ripping. Its never been done on that farm.ever. Starting to get standing water in places.

That is not necessarily a high-cost operation. Just find a smaller machine, that you can pull mega-deep, and just spend a couple hours during the summer whenever you have a chance... Id concentrate on the wet spots first... course I dont know how big of a farm you have, but this would be your lowest cost option for the time being.

Cheapest with less breakage is to make a pass and come back around and drop right back into your tracks. Two passes are cheaper than rebuilding your plow and start breaking shanks .
