Carb cleaner.

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the gallon pail of carb cleaner for sale at auto-zone. Price is 40.00 ... Im a little wary of this green, biodegradable stuff that is out there; I need a product that will take off both carbon and varnish. I had a 5 gallon bucket from Zep for 30 years, awesome stuff, but its simply had it. Replacement is about $ 350.... but am curious if I can get away with a can of A-zone solvent even if I had to change it every six months or so. Thanks, Fritz

Probably as good as anything,...........Ya can't get real carb cleaner anymore,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Kalifornia ya know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used crock pot from goodwill 50% vinegar 50% purple power let it cook for 24 hours cleaned 1650 Oliver carb up very well. Total cost 15 dollars not counting electricity for crock pot

I just use lacquer thinner. Gets most all the varnish and such. Any corrosion I attack with vinegar or CLR.

Full strength Purple Power heated up should do as good as anything.

Calcium and rust will come out with muriatic acid, just don't leave it in long.

Still, best to scrape out jets and critical passages with a torch tip cleaner.

I think the carb cleaner now days is about as good as radiator flush. Meaning neither does much good. My own opinion. Stan

Nothing works as good as a mechanical cleaning of all the passages. Monkey snot may make it look good, but it takes a real cleaning of passages.

I had real good luck with simple green & a ultrasonic cleaner. Simple green last I bought at Sam's club was $8.00 gal. Dave F.

I will mess up the spelling, but Berrymans from the auto or Walmart stores has worked good for me. It can be tough on bear skin, but washes off with water. And yes I do know how to spell the evil word

Its not like the old stuff. The old stuff would take the paint off as well as melt plastic and pretty much remove rust from cast iron.

What passes for carb. cleaner in the gallon can now will take varnish off and clean aluminum carburetors pretty well but its not stout enough to even harm plastic parts. Forget about removing rust and good paint.
