Parts convenience

You know, for all the complaining we do and long for the good old days when there was a dealer for most everything within 15 miles or so, once you embrace technology, it's not so bad now. Last time I needed a box of pickup tines for the round baler and tried to get them from the dealer, she was out, but had some coming on a stock order. I had her send me a box when they came in, but I still didn't get them that day and had to pay shipping. Other than having somebody to socialize with for a few minutes, and picking up a few other parts, I didn't gain anything by trying to get them there. It cost me gas and time.

I needed more, did a quick search on line, called All States and two boxes are on the way. I'm out the door to use my gas and time to haul some bales home. It's kind of like Carly Simon sang, these are the good old days.

I agree. Sloan Express, Shoup, All States (this site) are easy, convienient, faster and usually cheaper than the dealer. Plus no driving somewhere, just left by the shop by the big brown truck.

The quality on average is not any better at the OEM dealer versus buying from Shoup. It is a big deal to burn 20 dollars worth of gas to drive to a dealer versus no extra shipping if the order is big enough.

It's not just someone to socialize with. It's the people that just might have a part you need laying in their toolbox. It's the people you share advice with and don't mind you wandering around the shop talking to the mechanics or letting you borrow a manual or tool you don't have. Lots of added benefits with a good dealership.

I was in a bordering state shopping with the wife a couple years ago when an old guy came up to me talking about tractors. He remembered me from working on his tractor at the Deere dealership about 12 years before. It was a good distraction while the wife went about her shopping. Lol

The thing I miss is being able to drive 15 miles to get a part at planting or harvest season. Now, if you're lucky you find it in the next State over.

We have a pretty good amount of options for most parts here locally so seldom buy parts online. Shoup is getting expensive in their parts if you don't shop first. Last summer I could buy new 3 inch twisted shovels for the chisel plow for about a dollar less and were 3 inches total longer at the local Deere dealer versus Shoup. Not always is that true but sometimes. I'm going to be pricing things more through the local dealer more than I used to. Online is fine if you are sure it is going to fit or work otherwise you have the cost of shipping it back and not always so handy.
