Yellow Project #4

Yellow project #4 301 gasser is cleaning up a little at a time. Was able to get two pistons and liners out without much problem. But the one that was seized up is really stuck good. Had to press the liner out with the piston. Then I had to split the liner to get the piston out. The rings were stuck in the piston just as bad.

Wasteful? Not all of us can buy a new one with 'farm tax' and write off its' cost against our farm income. This guy is on his way to fixing this tractor and he is going to have a lot of satisfaction out of the job when he is done.

I agree. And isn't projects like his what this site is about? Helping people fixing older tractors and equipment. Instead of people critisizing and saying it's a waste of time and money, park it in a fence row and buy a another one. I applaud him for his work. After all this site is called Yesterdays tractors, not which new tractor should I buy.

This type of job will probably always be beyond my skill set but I appreciate the post and seeing the type of work involved. I often have projects that won't make profit but I enjoy doing them. Good luck getting this successfully completed.

Use a cut off blade in my small hand grinder. Cut both ends not touching the piston but grind a groove where piston was. Then used a chisel to split liner.

Thank you for the progress pictures on #4 . I too admire what you can accomplish and know that feeling of satisfaction in bringing a tractor back to life. Yes it takes time and money, and everyone decides what they want to spend it on.Looking forward to more progress pictures.
