What is this weed?

The week is hard to kill using 8 oz 41% Roundup to a gallon of water.

I'm going to see if it likes the taste of Morton salt.

The weed likes to grow on the edge of the driveway.

One of the common types of Barnyard grass. Each has a different species name, but the suggested treatment is Roundup for lawns. It is different enough from lawn grass to be targeted. Jim

Don't know what it is called but I have it also.

Tough stuff but glycophosphate works for me.

Agree with Richard, looks like goosegrass. Has an inflorescense like fall panicum. Either way Roundup works very well if applied correctly.

I was going to say crabgrass but since Richard reminded me of goose grass that seems more fitting.
If it has a white center (hard to tell with all the salt) it is goose grass. If it has a green center it is crab grass.
Goose grass also likes compacted soil conditions more.

Either way they both grow from seed. Killing it with salt or round up this late in the season may kill the plant but will not control it. You need to apply a pre emergent herbicide in the spring to prevent the seeds from sprouting new plants.

That there is official LMT.

Roses are also a good LMT.

Most flowers can be LMT, but you need the chute off for a good display.

Lawn Mower target.

PWOOF!

ohhh, this is what I recently posted about also.. IN my driveway, after I laid down a couple inches of new(to me) 21AA gravel. I think the seeds came with the gravel!! Roundup kills the plant, but as said herre, not the new sprouts. I plan on a
pre-emergent spray next !

The levels you guys are mixing Roundup to water should kill everything and some left over. You should not need to mixe more than about 4ozs to 2.5 gallon of water to do the job. that would be a mix of 32ozs to 20 gallon of water which is a recommended rate for field use on most weeds in most crops. With the levels you're using chemicals is the reason they are restricted use on most of them. I am starting to believe Roundup should be aslo for this reason. Over use by urban users and then complaints about water contamination all being blamed on the farmer for the heavy use of chemicals. Not saying some don't do the same thing at times just that the farmer for the acres he covers and the cost they are not for the most part mixing to these levels you guys post using. Mixing some other product with it would give a better effect on your weed issue. And dumping table salt on thing sat the amount show will also do the same water contamination eventually. It all builds up and can become a problem. Like the amount of nitrogen poured/sprayed on lawns to keep them green does the same thing causing a nitrate level in well water . Don't believe me ask a bunch of the folks in IA about having their wells closed and hauling water for daily use. I'm sure it is wider spread than just IA too.

I bet you are right about roundup killing the plant and not existing seeds.

I mix 8 oz roundup with 8 oz of pramitol and the weeds and crabgrass return.

Salt can't be worse than using chemicals.

I put a plastic tarp over the area for a few sunny 4 or 5 days. Temperature gets way over what a plant can survive. Burns them up !
Tarp Ive been using is the medium green/brown . Just a suggestion

I've used Pramitol in the past. Label says you need a 1/4'' of rain to carry the active ingredients down to the root zone. I used a garden hose to get the needed water.

George down here in Vincennes we call that wire grass. I mix Roundup plus crop oil plus a preemergent grass killer. Like they say you need rainfall or water to make it work.

I have used roundup but, I like a product called killzall better. get very good results. Get it for around the house at True Value hardware. Here in NW Arizona there are a few difficult weeds and bushes to kill. Have also used a product called domesday that works well on Bermuda grass. Sometimes salt is good fertilizer, wink.
