4020 power steering lines.

Old 4020 issue - having replaced both the main pump (driven off Crankshaft) and the power steering valve unit (between steering wheel and dash firewall) I'm dealing with leaking steel hydraulic line. I believe it/they probably are return lines. The leaking line leads from left driver side of the steering unit to connect with (I believe) the line coming from the main pump. The leaking line (leaking where it goes thru the firewall) has a twin which feeds similarly from the right side of the unit to make it's connection.

These two lines connect to what I believe to be lines leading to the main pump. These line connections are on the right side of the engine, near the fuel tank.

Recommendations: braise the steel line, re-place with new steel line, or replace with flexible hose?

From your description, it sounds like it's one of the steel lines between the steering valve and the steering ''motor'' which is located ahead of the hydraulic pump.

While probably not considered a ''proper'' repair on high pressure hydraulic lines there are MANY MANY tractors in daily use that have had similar lines brazed with no issues.

On the other hand, if it's just a section of the line that's damaged a hydraulic hose place can make you up an appropriate length of hose with a special (hydraulic-rated) compression fitting at each end that will ''bite'' into the steel line, allowing just a short length of the steel line to be cut out and replaced with the hose, a LOT easier that replacing the complete line.

I have brazed many for the county road and Bridge department that carried high pressure. Easy and hold up well
