Case 1594 lift

I know this tractor is odd, but I m having some trouble with the 3point hitch. The tractor has to be throttled all the way to raise the lift, and after the fluid heats up (or at least after running for 30-45 minutes) the lift is terribly slow to pick up.

I don t know if it s an internal problem or something in the linkages. So far nothing stands out with the linkages, but I think I m missing something obvious. The oil cooler supposedly has a cut off valve according to the book, but I can t find it.

Anybody run into something like this before on a David Brown or Case?

Sounds like a weak pump. How is the response when hooked to a remote cyl? One filter in back ,other is a cleanable screen type underneath. Have to drain
system to clean. If remote cyl works slow the same as 3pt probably the pump. Check filters first. A+I products has the pump, or did when I changed mine. With
pump out front not a bad job to change.

Hello hill welcome to YT! Once it raises does it hold
position? When you throttle the engine down does it
just start lowering? That would be a sign the seals are
blow in the 3 point lift cylinder. If you do not use the 3
point does the hyd. oil heat up either way? I assume
your cooler valve only protects the cooler coil from
over pressure. I am attaching the CNHI parts diagrams
for your tractor. Go to Hydraulics section 8, subsection
258, what I am talking about is number 1. It also shows
a ..dump valve in section 280. Another odd thing, does
it mention that in you book? I would suggest you buy a
service manual. YT does offer a IT manual, but I
suggest then actual Case Repair manual, the one in the
2nd link is downloadable.

Most likely cause is a plugged suction screen under the tractor. Did you clean it when you changed the oil and filter?

What kind of oil did you use when you changed it(if it came in a yellow bucket, the paraffin that is suspended in the oil is probably is plastered to the screen)?

Does it get better briefly if you shut down for 10 minutes and come back to it?

I have one in the shop right now. Hydraulics quit instantly. Sheared the key in the pump coupling on the pump. This one has the double pump.
Some have a single. This is really a David Brown tractor and the hydraulics on them are very finicky. They like clean oil with no water and
a clean suction filter.

I used cenex htb fluid. The book calls for case TFD which I think is just hy Tran.

Is the screen in the top of the filter base?

I honestly don t understand how the lift works on these tractors. If there are lift cylinders they must be internal.

The cylinder is internal behind the rockshaft on the left side.

The screen is under the tractor, roughly under the seat, in a housing the size of a large cooking pot, with a 2" or so rubber hose going to it. About ten to twelve 5/16" bolts(1/2" wrench) of various lengths holding it on. The main sump drain plug screws into the housing. You have to drain the tractor to do the job. I clean the screen with a find brass or nylon brush in some diesel, then blow out from the inside with compressed air.

It holds position, but the more you work it up and down,
the slower it responds to lift. Im assuming the oil
temperature might affect it but only because it works at
first (as long as its full throttle).

Ive got an 8 disc mower on it.

My guess is that its a valve, the lift cylinders, or
something wrong in the lift linkage. The pump could be
weak too, but the remotes dont have trouble that I can
tell.

I overlooked the valve in 258, I saw it on the cooler but
didnt realize what it was. I have no idea on the dump
valve. Theres also an air bleed valve thats supposed to
be in the lines, but I cant locate it on the tractor. Its
shown in 8-272 and 8-268
