Cylinder end to determine if its leaking there.

Second paper towels are wrapped around the threads that are prone to leaking.

Cheap way to find leaks.

The way I see it if hydraulic cylinders aren't leaking today. just wait for tomorrow

Because the end of the cylinder is at an angle. If the rod is
leaking, the Hyd oil will run down the cylinder past the
threads..

After washing the area, I have dusted with flour or baby powder.
The leak source with show as it gets wet.

For everyone: NEVER CHECK FOR A HYDRAULIC LEAK WITH YOU FINGER. If it is under pressure, oil can be injected thru your skin and poison you! Mark.

The last time my hydraulic hose leaked, it sprayed oil on the hot muffler and produced a lot of white smoke.

That gets the old heart pumping.
I grabbed the fire extinguisher after turning the engine off.

I don't think it's too hard to find a hydraulic leak, 2000 psi.
