Replace EGR valve 03 Lincoln Town Car?

How hard is a EGR valve to replace on a 4.6? My Lincoln spent 14 months at a bodyshop. Seafoam did wonders to the half tank of yr old gas, but it is throwing a intermittent misfire for 3 and 5, and also a P1305 code i think that is the EGR valve. All help and advice welcomed , Thanks Jim
 
My old 99 F250 with 5.4 had a differential pressure sensor that worked with the EGR system. Had to replace it once. EGRs will sometimes coke up and stick. They can be cleaned. Not hard to change.
 
The P1305 code indicates a problem with the crank position sensor - NOT EGR. This would also be consistent with intermittent misfires.

My advice: do some diagnosis and research BEFORE you get out the parts cannon. You will save money and aggravation in the process.
 
I had a similar misfire issue on my 05 Town Car. Pull the coil pack and boot off of 3 or 5 and check for coolant. The 4.6 has a problem with the plastic intake manifold leaking into the spark plug wells. If there's coolant or oil in them blow it out clean and check the plugs and boot. The coil packs come off without much trouble I think they are 7mm bolt heads. HTH Jf
