I've got a MH 30 I just got running. It has no hydraulics. Previous owner said he used a power steering pump to lift a snow plow on this tractor. It has a pulley on the flywheel for a belt-- would a pump from a ford ranger be big enough? What could I use for a reservoir? How do I rig up controls? Thanks for any suggestions...

Yes, a power steering pump is enough to lift a snow plow and then some.

It should have enough reservoir, but that also depends on the displacement of the cylinder. A double acting cylinder will displace much less than a single acting.

You will need an open center control valve.

Do your homework! Hydraulics are not forgiving of design errors, trial and error is very expensive! Work everything out on paper first, it will save you much headache and money!

Once the cylinder and lines are full with a double acting cylinder, the reservoir should be big enough. What goes in one end of it displaces what is in the other. So volume would be the same.
