430 Quadtrac

Working on a 430 Quadtrac, transmission works just fine in every gear but overheats if you actually try to put it to work, lower rpm seems to be better but still not what it should be. Possibly related issue but now by front tracks are getting chewed up on the face of the drive lugs, checked all my pressures thinking that the brakes were dragging, removed the tracks and driveshaft and am able to spin yoke freely when brakes are released so that s not the issue but somehow the front sprockets are definitely moving slightly slower than the rear, any help appreciated!!!

Hello Dupree welcome to YT! Well I have never been
around one of those machines so I cannot help you
much. The larger problem is, I would guess that many
of the others that are viewing your post on here are
also not familiar with newer larger machines like this. I
do not know if you have heard of the New AgTalk forum
but that is where I would recommend you place a post
on your problem on the ..Machinery Talk.. section, see
link. The topics there are more in line with a question
like yours, on a machine that is fairly common on
todays larger farms. If you have posted there in the
past and had a bad experience, I apologize for that
there is no way to know your situation. Good luck!

(quoted from post at 08:17:15 08/12/22) I would think I am not the only one on here that has no idea what a quadtrac is.

Probably not but you may be the only one who doesn't know what google is, LOL.

I agree this is probably not the best place to get help as most of the knowledge here is on antique tractors. No spark from your magneto? We can help. Diagnosing a computer controlled powershift transmission on a 430HP articulated tractor? Not so much.

Something like this I would hope you'd have a contact at the dealer service department to bounce ideas off of, but we can at least try to help.

First off WHAT gets hot? Engine? Transmission? You say "it gets hot" but don't say what "it" is.

Second off, how are you determining that the front isn't turning as fast as the rear (lagging)? Have you actually counted revolutions of the drive shaft vs. revolutions of the hub on both axles to confirm?

If it is as you say and the front is lagging, you need to go back and see what was done BEFORE you were handed this tractor to work on. What work was done on the transfer case and/or one of the axles?

I would imagine that the front and rear axles are hard-geared together. Something like this doesn't just magically change out of the blue.

It is a four tracks tractor. Unless there are no drive lugs on the track and/or "wheels/bogies" ........all should be forced to turn in unison.
