Wisconsin VH4D troubles update

I just wanted to give an update on the engine problems I was having with 2 of these engines. The one in the Hahn hiboy, being I had more going on than I could say Grace over, I had my good mechanic friend take a look at it. He pulled the carb, disassembled and cleaned it again. So far it's been flawless. The one on the Long harvester, I didn't like the way the off/on ignition switch felt when it was used so I replaced it. I have had problems with some of them right out of the box and I guess it was another one of an almost right but not quite there yet deals. So far it also has been running well. Got another one that blew a head gasket and possibly a burnt valve this week, soo, the repair work continues on. Grrrrr.

Thanks for the update. I have been around Wisconsin engines since the late 40s.
I love the sound of an odd fire V4 working.

You must be thinking of something like the VE4D series engines ? I have 1 of those that we ran for years. It suddenly lost a lot of its power and I retired it after no one could figure out why. It did sound impressive when you had a decent load on it.

Farmer next door had one on a JD 12A combine when I was young - in the 60's. If they could get it started they would never shut it off all day until they were done combining oats - otherwise it would never restart when hot. I loved to ride it with dad and slide down the bag chute. Don't remember it being a dusty nightmare, but it must have been.

Sometimes by accident some of these will get shut off when they are hot and the ambient temp is hot. Talk about occasional nightmare to get them restarted.....and the endless profanity trying. Lol.
