Commercial raspberry picking ....

While picking raspberries this morning I was wondering, is there a machine used for picking raspberries commercially? Must be a pretty elaborate and complicated device if there is, I can't imagine anything man made that could do that job.

There might be like a blueberry plant shaker type harvester if they are going for jam and pies, etc.

Fresh by the pint for retail I think they are too delicate.

No chiggers, to be honest I don't even know what they are. No pests of any kind on our raspberries. I think one of my friends had a wild weekend back in the 60's and might have ended up with some chiggers .... not sure .... ha!

Just for you to be thankful, chiggers are tiny mites that are found in really any foliage but commonly on berry plants. They get on you and seem to gravitate to tight areas of clothing but especially the genital area. Itching is almost unbearable from their bite and any sweating will get the itching going. Being in mixed company can be hard to bare. Luckily Off will repel them but too often it's too far away to go get when hooking up an implement in the weeds. Just one more reason I have grown to celebrate the first killer frost.

While they harvest blueberries with a machine. They still pick a good amount of them by hand yet. Just bought a 100LBS of them hand picked for 2.50 a pound.
