Plow rear wheel perhaps

Got this Ferguson plow and I am wonder if there was an option for a rear wheel for a more consistent debt thanks for any info

The rear wheel that goes in that position is mainly to hold the plough straight not to hold the depth. Ferguson ploughs were meant to work with the Ferguson System of depth control so no depth control wheels were fitted as far as I know.

My Ferguson 12-AO plow on '44 2N has a spring loaded tail wheel that rides down in the furrow. I've seen aftermarkets with a depth limiting gage wheel that stays on the land so I dunno

I would like to see a picture of the spring loaded tail wheel on your plow ,as I have never seen one.
I have '43 Ferguson 12-AO plow and it has no spring and wonder if it is missing.

wlytexas. I think I have a similar Ferguson plow as yours. Mine is a 2 x 14 inch moldboard with coulters and tail wheel. Good to see yours in action. I hope to turn some dirt as soon as my leg heels up some more. Just got a knee replacement a week ago Tuesday. Really like your post. Wingnut

I have never saw a plow without the tail wheel and nothinin owners instructions eithe about one without the tail wheel. That spring loading is to let the plow drop to plowing depth sooner as it will let the botton go down into the ground faster than one with just a long land side that I have never saw on either a Ferguson or Dearborn plow. I do have the plow that Dad bought new with the tractor in May of 1944. And all orignal manuals. Cannot give model number as tractor and plow stored 50 mile away at friends and have not seen then for a couple of years.

The orignal bracket and wheel broke on mine and Dad got a replacement for it, that would have been 40-50 years ago and I dought any parts would be avaible now. That is what happened to your plow at one time and owner either could not find or did not want to pay the monney so he tried to make his own like a few trailer plows did have. This tractor I have was Dad's only tractor untill he bought a 38 John Deere A in 1957 when I got old enough to help on farm. I am sure my tractor has thousands of hours on it. Did every job on the farm for years.
