The lady's dress doesn't look practical for where she is. Probably dressed that way for the picture.

Anybody have a guess at what that is on the left side of the picture in front of the oxen? I haven't a clue.

Back then, getting your picture taken was special, like flying on a plane in the 50's. People got dressed up for it.
Back then they'd pose with all their worldly possessions and send the picture back to Europe to
show the old folks how well they were doing. The stuff on the left looks to me like posts and
rails to build a corral. Posts are leaning on the barbed wire fence. The farm out-building is
setting on stones. Probably not a barn, but a grainery and storage building. There weren't
many trees in North Dakota, [If it is N.D.}, so lumber probably was hauled from the nearest
railway station. That cost money. The original homestead shack probably was less of a building
than that shed.
