Ford 801 Carburetor Bowl

I have a 801 ford s/n 129776. The threads in the carburetor bowl for the main load adjusting assembly are gone. It's a Marvel Schebler TSX918. Was hoping to buy a new or reman. carb but WOW what a big price jump from a 134hp engine carb to a 172hp engine. Can I buy just the bowl for the carb? Will a carb off of any other model ford work? Any suggestion on my old carb?
Thanks,
Scotty

I am not a fan of mixing and matching carb ''halves''.

Likely, yours could be repaired with a Helicoil or thread repair insert.

Can you post a photo of exactly what's stripped?

TSX918 seems to be for an AC G230 engine as used in a combine. MS carbs for a Ford 801 can be TSX813, TSX662, TSX769 or Ford CONN9510G or CONN9510C. Just FYI. I don't think replacement bowls are commonly available.

Are Helicoils even made for UNEF (Extra Fine) threads? My experience with Marvel Schebler is they were very fond of extra fine threads in
their assemblies.

Andy... I've checked all those numbers and they all average about the same price tag of around $400 on up to $1,000. Just didn't realize that there is so many 134 engine carbs available. So many that I think I can buy a new knock off junk carb for as cheap as $40 but the 172 engine not even been able to find a cheap knock off. Cheapest I can find is a Zenth carb for about $375. That bites because this is about the first Marvel Schebler that I can't figure out how to make it last forever because they do. They are good carbs that besides beating it with a hammer, Never had 1 that I couldn't somehow repair. The fat lady ain't sang yet so gonna try to figure something out. Thanks Andy.

Got the carb on the tractor now but from what I can tell the bottom has a drain plug and then a load adjusting screw hole. I always called them High speed adjustment screws. This Load adjust screw is 2 pieces we'll say, the seat that screws up into the bottom of the bowl with a fiber washer behind it and the needle screws into the seat. The seat has a little fiber type washer to seal it to the bowl. I think the fiber washer got so hard that it started leaking just a little. I would tighten it up, leak would stop. One day I noticed it was leaking again so I tried tightening it some more. I think I had tighten it up so many times that the fiber washer that seals it to the bowl got so hard it wouldn't seal anymore, so like a knuckle head I probably kept tightening it so many times, I probably stripped out what was left of the already thin threads out. It felt like it started to strip so I stopped tightening and bought a new main load adjust assembly. It screws way up into the bowl just won't get tight without slipping. I like the Heli Claw ideal but I'm not sure I can get that far into the bowl to do that but will dang sure see if I can. Thanks for the Ideal.

They are very fine threads and not may of them plus I think the seat part bottoms out when tighten. Crazy that I got a bullet proof carb but 5 little threads might be the end of her.
Thanks,
Scotty

If you want a bowl for your TSX918 there's a terrible-looking TSX918 on Ebay for $70 once shipping is added.

Also a 134 carb will work, some people on the Ford forum report running them on 172 engines. However your power will probably be derated at the top end, may or may not be of concern depending on how you use the tractor.

When shopping make sure to check the inlet size and mounting stud spacing against what you have.

For sure Andy. Already had to send one back that said would fit 801 and was a Marvel Schebler. It was a Marvel Schebler carb but did not have the 2 3/4 stud spacing. So basically what I have learned is if it don't have the Load adjusting set-up on the bowl it doesn't have the 2 3/4 stud spacing.
Thanks

Andy, Tractor is just used around home for different chorus. Not to worried about loosing a few horse power but I can't find a 134 engine carb that has the 2 3/4 stud spacing. Do you know if all 134 engine have the same carb stud spacing or did some have the 2 3/4 stud spacing?
Thanks

Hey Andy, when you get the chance will you send me the item number for the carb on ebay, I can't find it. If I can use the bowl off of it I sure would like to keep the carb that came on the tractor.
Thanks

Item 294500076337 . Really rusty, if you think it may be of use maybe make an offer.

I think people using 134 carb on 172 have the non-OEM replacement manifold which has slotted carb mounting holes to accept a range of stud spacings.
