funny, is this wired to code?

Installed a switch like that on the first car I owned. Brake lights worked just fine, but I used the switch when I needed to be in stealth mode.

On my first car I wired my backup lights with a dash switch.
I would turn it on when someone was following too close.

eeds to be labeled, "Normal mode" and "running from cops".

I do not believe there is any unlawful code violation but the computer may shut the car off if it senses the brake lights are not working.

James Bond had that feature on his Aston Martin. Allowed him to escape people chasing him in the dark on twisty mountain roads.

I suspect if you read the specs on the switch, it probably says AC only!

So no, it is in violation! Barney will soon stop their crime spree!

What's saying that isn't the case here?

Everybody's just assuming that it's a switch the guy flips when stopping.

t least 4 or 5 above posts do not assume that. Didn't read did you?

Seen that done for ignition switch on a 48 ford pickup years ago. I used a toggle switch on 48 K I H when couldnt find key , found key then changed back.

I helped a fella out with his newly acquired motorhome. The PO (previous owner) had installed a heated bypass switch in the bath room to disconnect the electric heater element. Used a 12v rocker switch and doubled up lamp cord to extend a leg to the heater element. Put a 100W light bulb (bare) next the potable water pump for freeze protection, remote switch all wired in lamp cord. All the potable plumbing was old black rubber hose. The water pump was a piston/bellows affair.

Tore it all out and replaced the water pump and new hose.

Lets not even go into the brakes....

That would be correct if a metal rod was connected to the brake pedal.
It should also be a momentary switch and not an on/off switch.

That was my thought too. Or reverse the on/off mode, put a spring on lever, and a string going from the brake pedal to the lever.

I did that too on a CJ Jeep. We would participate in road rallies.
They were basically a written route with clues you found while driving in order to turn in the right direction.
No brake lights slowed down the ones searching for the clue.

I had a 69 dodge van the ignition switch went out, got tired of crawling underneath to short the starter. Wired up a doorbell switch worked for years.

years back street racers would switch on back up lights if you wanted to drag race. tape money to the side window to bet.
