I've posted this on the IH forum, but thought maybe someone here has some insight:
A fairly new-to-me 434 has started to give me problems with shifting. I can now only shift into 1st gear and Reverse in both H & L ranges. Also, about the same time I noticed that I cannot engage the pto with tractor running. Can these two issues be connected? I know nothing about transmissions but it seems to me that maybe the actual shifter is not connecting properly. I've heard that sometimes forks get out of place, whatever that means. Do I need to remove the whole top plate?
