Military tire replacement

I have an old military trailer that's going to need new tires eventually. It has 9.00-16 tires now. I don't need expensive military like tires on it. I just need them to be round. It doesn't get loaded heavy or run down the highway. Just hauls trash about 20 miles away and doesn't get above 50 mph. What would be close to that size in a truck tire.

Watching. I have the same tires on a military trailer, same size even. I need a couple tires too but bias ply tires that size are expensive to say the least. What I would like to do is get different rims to get away from the split ring rims but I haven't searched around enough to see if such a rim in that bolt pattern and size exists.

Ok, Thank you. It's kinda like I was figuring. I can buy two expensive military tires cheaper than three new radials and tubes counting the spare. I appreciate the answer on what to look for at least. I don't use the trailer enough to justify that much for tires.

Those side lock ring rims are reusable with some used 3/4 ton truck tires if you have someone local that knows how to change them. You should respect those rims, but you don't have to fear them. The older winnebago motorhomes had 7.50-17 rims with that 5 hole Budd center that will fit. They will be side lock and tube type also. Hope this helps. Steve.

Believe me you don't know my local tire guy. As my dad would say he doesn't know his A from a hole in the ground.

I have changed tires on split snap ring rims multiple times. Just take your time and more importantly pay attention. My local tire shop is almost useless.

My advice is air them up close to the rated maximum, and post back in ten years. If you had radials on it, I would say go straight to the tire store and get new ones. You have time to look for tires or maybe new rims to fit. One thing no one has noted yet, is you will need redial tubes and flaps if you stay with the split ring rims. The flaps you have probly will not fit a smaller width tire. Look at Gov Auctions.com your tires will show up there sooner or later.

That is the nicer of the two tires. The
other one does show more cracks. It isn't
terrible yet but I was just thinking about
my options. I've become paranoid about
tires ever since I had two simultaneous
blowouts while hauling a load of hay. Just
lucked out it happened on a rock road 100
feet before I was going to turn onto the
highway. That would've been a mess.

Run them they will last a lot longer. If you are worried that bad there are several places you can get wheels. I would just run them till they were about down to the end of the tread. Put a set of old pickup tires on it. Nothing to it just put them on with the flap and tube and go to work. When you change them if you are that worried about the ring coming off bolt it to the trailer bacwards and inflate then if it came off it would go into the trailer not you.
