I've had comments here on my winter photos and videos about how can I work in such cold. But I think I can handle that better than these 80+ degree temps this morning. Took the old Merc for a short drive and a few photos and that was about all I wanted to do. Thermometer said 90F when I came in for dinner. I've got things to do but they might not get done in this heat.

So now its my turn to comment, 'I don't know how you guys can survive in those temperatures".

I will take 90 over your long
cold winters. I don't see how
you handle that. I guess we all
get acclimated to our
environment.

Actually winter is a nice break for me. I dress up warm to do the few chores I need to do outside and then return to a comfortable warm house. This time of year I have numerous jobs on the farm needing to be done but just dragging myself around in this intense heat and humidity. Its ok if I get a job inside the Air Conditioned comfortable cabs but not all the jobs are in there.

think you have somethine there. I expect that most folks stay near where they grew up, maybe not really knowing any other place, and simply stay there. My bunch has been right here for well over 100 years. Traveling, I have seen skiing amounts of snow, & enjoyed skiing but didn't want to stay.

Cold winters I can always add another layer of cloths to stay warm but in the summer there is only so much a guy can remove without getting in trouble.

Were you off to church? The Merc probably doesn't have A/C. But it probably has those triangular shaped windows in the front doors that we called wind scoops which could be turned to blow air on the front seat passenger and driver. That felt pretty good at slower speeds but awfully noisey at 50 MPH. Are you short of rain? A good rain would be welcome here in South Minnesota.

This coming week the weather guessers are calling for temp in the 100-105 range here in MO. Today we got some much needed rain but not as much as we really need. But even 105 is cool compared to being in Egypt in June

I'm with Rusty I'll take the cold over the heat. Heat over about 80 just shuts me down. Shirt sticks and can't move and awful things like that.

I worked with a lot of former marines who came out west from the east coast to Oceanside California. Camp Pendleton is just outside of Oceanside. Most
of the base is on the beach. So many stayed when they got out, because of the good weather. There is a few hot days, but the winter is much easier. So
what do I do? I join the Navy, and am sent to the Great Lakes Navy Boot Camp in the winter, and Memphis Tennessee for school in the summer. Stan

My shop runs about 95F by afternoon. I have a couple of the 36 HF pedestal free standing fans which makes it reasonably
comfortable. Outdoor thermometers on both porches (shaded by roof and trees) average 105 by mid afternoon. Been that way for
at least a couple of weeks. We do usually have good breezes from the South which helps and the humidity isn't bad since it has
been so hot and dry and I am far enough inland for most of the Gulf moisture in the air to evaporate.

Too cold you can turn the furnace up, add a blanket or sweatshirt. Typically a lot less needs to be done on the farm in the coldest months so you can huddle by the
heat.

In the heat of summer work needs to be done, hot or not. Baling, oat harvest, spraying, etc. suck it up and keep working. Blah.

So, Id just as soon be in the cold over the high humidity and heat.

But neither extreme is a good deal.

Paul

When they issue a LIVESTOCK AND FAT MAN WARNING I stay where it is cool. Winter in SD, just add more cloths.

(quoted from post at 18:38:38 07/18/22) Looks like it got too hot for rusty to comment as usually he is prompt to respond.
Ron, we actually cooled down into the 80s and the rest of the day was bearable. Considering I was not doing too much either. Got another thunderstorm and rain at night soaking the hay swaths that were almost ready to bale. Another storm watch on tonight so its typical frustrating haying weather. Another shot from yesterday on "canola road". Near as i can figure that field must be a good 2000 acres.
