Tractor riding suspended for a while

Got the word from the surgeon, I'm cleared for hernia repair next Tuesday. Had real bad pain last week and Dr. said no excuses it has to be fixed. Ran tests this week to be sure I was fit for surgery (I was) and made sure I can pay the bill (I can). I think that second one was their priority. And a lot of rules, several pages I need to read before then. Anyway, first page said no lifting and no equipment riding for 2 weeks after. Dr. already told me absolutely no riding the zero turn mower until she gives the OK. So I mowed slow and easy with the 1625 Massey today, that way my son should only have to mow the house and shop lots a couple times while I'm down. Probably spend my down time with some bench work, talking on the radios, and lurking around here. I have to be healed up by mid August when several of the local tractor rides occur.

Darn, thats a bummer. I have rides in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota to attend yet. The JD 4020 just turned 1800 miles so far this year driving to the Winamac show yesterday.

Good luck with the surgery. I have never had the surgery but from what I have seen it is not as tough today as it used to be. My dad had hernia surgery when he was in his mid-80's. He was secretive about that stuff so he didn't tell me the surgery was coming up. One day i noticed he did not come out to the farm like he always did. The next day he came out to the farm and when I finally caught up with him he was crawling out from under an evergreen after cutting off a volunteer mulberry that was under the tree and he looked like death warmed over, just terrible. When I told him he didn't look good he said "ya I had better head home, I had hernia surgery yesterday". LOL

I met with the surgeon and he sent me to another wing where they would tell me or give me a paper telling me when to quit eating or drinking so many hours before surgery. I got to that wing and no one was there except the cleaning lady! Luckily her husband had hernia surgery the year before so SHE told me what I needed to know. I think shes the only one that didn't send me a bill.

Had many knee problems {I fell] Dr and nurse told me not to ride my bike Saturday went on a group ride to a diner did not walk much. Sunday I was back to using the walker with pain. Listen to the Doc

I had one done 7-8 years ago. Doc told me to do whatever I wanted, there was nothing I could do to it to hurt it. 3 or 4 little 1/2 inch incisions is all I had.

You wont want to do much the first week. If you do, you will be so tired youll have to stop. Remember it takes lots of energy to heal. Dr told me if I didnt behave, he would have to do it again and it wouldnt be as good as the first time, Maybe that was just to scare me but I didnt want to do it again.

My boss had one fixed 40 years ago and it was two miles into town. He walked it back and forth 4 times a day.The doc said walk and his wife was a retired nurse,so he walked!

Not sure your age. I had 2ea hernia surgeries about 4 years apart, first was when I was 40. They are serious events and put me down for several days both times. Painful. Do not over do things at all. Listen to the doc and heal up using caution. Eventually you will be better than new but that takes time. Get organized then take it easy. Good luck with all.

had laparoscopy hernia surgery 10 yrs ago. its where they make the 12 inch slit and do everything from outside, less traumatic. i took off chores for 5 days, then back at it. told doctor what i did, not much pain, he said you gotta do what ya gotta do

Quick!!! go out and try to lift something that is too heavy and rupture the other side. I had double hernia repair twenty years ago and I was back to work the next morning. When it is double they do it with just two little incisions and slide gauze in. It heals much faster than conventional long incision surgery.

I had one done about 12years ago. It had become e strangulated and hurt like heck. My Son had to drive me in as wife was out of state. Nice 6in souvenir of my hospital visit.

My sister lives at Bass lake 6 months and Leesburg Fl the other 6 months.
I lived on the north edge of Knox on a diary farm when I was a kid..
Small world,.

I had two fixed at the same time years ago. I wasn't supposed to lift over 5 pounds for two weeks.

I was taking classes at the University of Nebraska at the time and some of my books weighed more than that. My wife was my book bearer. She'd take me to class, and disappear until class was over.

My b-i-l was trying to sail on Bass Lake,Couldn't do very well 'cause he couldn't lower the centerboard,it was so shallow
