Adjusting Behlen Power Steering Torque Generator

Is there a way to adjust play out of the torque generator on a Behlen power steering system? Been a while since I looked at a manual, but don't recall seeing anything about it.

I don't know about the unit itself. though I would look at the universal and pins, along with the worm and sector gear, on an IHC tractor or the the bearing on the end of the shaft, and that the nut is tight holding it in the housing. Those would be the places I would look at first.

I'm going to agree with Caterpillar Guy and say if you have too much slop in the steering, particularly if it is evident whether turning right or left, then the first places to check are the tie rod ends and the worm and sector gear. If your machine is like my neighbor's (Farmall 450) there is an adjustment, though I'm not sure if it'll tighten things up. From what we've read it is used to correct the centering of assist. If it turns easier in one direction or the other, you unloosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut/screw in or out as needed. If I remember correct one indicator that it is out of adjustment, is if the tractor has a tendency to want to wander to the right yet turns easily to the left (like his tractor does).

Sorry, I can't be of more help. We haven't played around with his yet, as we know he needs new worm and sector gear, then we'll be able to bugger it up properly.
