Maytag dishwasher was repaired under Lowes extended warranty about 2 years ago
Repairman replaced everything
cvphoto130020.jpg

Including the touch panel.

The start button fell out of place.

The clear plastic circuit board holder had 2 plastic pieces missing, circuit board flexed and start button fell out of place. No one sells the plastic bracket.

I put 2 screws where the plastic pieces are missing.

I used a carpenter's pencil, wrapped with electric tape and used red zip to hold it in place keeping circuit board in place.

I asked the repairman if I could keep the touch panel he replaced.

He said no, I send it back and they refurbish it.

I think repairman installed a refurbish touch panel, not a new panel.
Grrrr.

BOSS thinks the start button didn't feel right from the get go.

Always something I need to repair.

This was an easy fix for a person with a redneck engineering degree.

BOSS is happy.

I have a whirlpool dishwasher and refrigerator in my other place that were installed in 1995 when I remolded the kitchen. Never been repaired, works fine.

They don't make any appliance like they used to.

George: Are you aware that Whirlpool purchased Maytag in April of 2006 and closed the Maytag plants? That gave Whirlpool the Maytag brand name which they now put on whatever products they want to. I do remember, back in 1965, purchasing a Maytag washing machine that lasted over 25 years and that wasn't unusual. The Maytag Repairman commercials of that day were spot on but the Maytag family departed the business and modern day management took over and you can see what happened. We've become a through away society. There are still reliable products out there. I've heard many times that Speed Queen is the most dependable washing machine----and, that's why I've been trying to convince you to buy a TOYOTA. (;>))

I have a Magtag washer and dryer. Wish i had never seen them although no trouble yet. Washing machine has no adjudicator. Its not the old Magtags i use to have. All done with a control board and servo motor. Times 10 on the Toyota.

My wife bought a washer a few years ago, wanted something modern. At some point it just quit, but it was under extended warranty. All it really did was shut down because the computer said it had a restricted drain. The repairman came and hooked his computer to it,pushed a button and woke it up again. The drain went out the wall behind the machine into the flower bed.Zero restriction. The next time was out of warranty, and cost her $290.My friend piles his scrap up here, and we pulled out a nice looking Maytag he found on the side of the road free.We bought a $22.belt and it works like new.He also found a nice looking Maytag gas dryer,I put two solenoids in it,and that works like new also. Both are early 80's machines.

I looked at the highlander hybrid.
Looks interesting. Might test drive it if I need a new car.
Right now both cars are in good shape and low mileage.

I know Maytag, kitchenaid. whirlpool and others are the same.

I bought Maytag dishwasher not because it's a Maytag but because it one of the few dishwashers with a disposer and a heat drying mode.

My whirlpool washer went bad while under extended warranty. After 3 service calls. they decided to give me a refund.

I was lucky to find an old school GE washer, which is no longer available.

Todays appliances are junk .

(quoted from post at 06:52:29 07/09/22) Maytag is one of the many companies riding on the coat tail of their past reputation, which is now quickly fading!

"Maytag" is no longer a manufacturing company. It is only a name.

Just recently our THIRD dishwasher in 20 years bit the dust. This one has electronics failures. I'm not calling a repairman. I'm not replacing it. We will just do it the old fashioned, tried and true way from now on.

I know.
The same can be said about many other things.
Just a few people make batteries, hand tools, food and the list
goes on..

Some people don't like dishwashers. My boss does.
If my Boss isn't happy, no one is happy..
She said there was an issue with the start button.

I said, use it until it stops. That way if I can't fix it
I won't be blamed for breaking it.
Good thing I waited, found the start button was out of place and
discovered the circuit board wasn't being held in place because
2 Plastic tabs were missing.
Easy fix..

My dad always bought Maytag and bragged on how long they lasted. The dealer had parts in stock and dad would repair them himself when ever a problem occurred which was not often.

One day dad decided to replace his 25 year old Maytag dish washer. The salesman told dad right up front he would never own another one that would last 25 years. Dad has now had two Maytag dish washers. Current one has one or two features that won't work.

The salesman told dad they don't intend for a washer to last more than five years. They stop making parts after three years.

You just provide things don't last lie they used to.

I think there's a built in defect like the plastic circuit board that fails.

I would not have attempted to repair it if all the moving parts weren't replaced while under 5 year extended warranty 2 years ago.

Only 6 years old.

You can still buy washboards, we all may be using them in another year. My Grandma cooked on a wood stove, never had running water in the house, used a hand pump on the backyard well and washed her clothes on a washboard in a No.3 washtub, she did let us install natural gas and space heater in he house but still cooked with wood.. She lived independently until about a year before she died. Oh, and she did have a TV and enjoyed soap operas and Jeopardy.

If you check Consumer Reports Magazine, Speed Queen is way ahead of everyone else in reliability. They are made in Ripon, Wis, not China and still use the old style mechanical controls. We bought a new set 2 years ago and could not be happier. They are simple to run and they work. That is why their records are like Maytag used to be, best in business. They are also competitive in price.

Maytag appliances are no longer Maytags like they used to be ..... ie. actually made by Maytag. Likely made by Whirlpool today (like most other brands) with most of the parts from China, maybe assembled in North America. We have a mismatched set of a Maytag washer and dryer from 1990, so 32 years now and counting. I've done a few repairs myself, never had a serviceman out yet. Parts are still available locally. Your last sentence George is 100% spot on.

(quoted from post at 07:27:57 07/10/22) SQ does not make a dishwasher.
SQ only makes one washer with some mechanical controls.

The last time I visited our local Speed Queen dealer, I did see a Speed Queen washer and dryer set that had ALL the whiz bang touch controls and blinking lights just like every other consumer grade washer and dryer.

Pretty sure they still offer the plain jane, reliable models also.

Complain that nobody fixes anything anymore, then when someone actually comes and fixes it, complain HOW it was fixed...

Why does it matter if he used a new or refurbished panel? The machine is not new. Maybe another new panel has the same problem as the your original one, and the refurbished ones are improved.
