I was going to take some scrap in, but at 60.00 a ton, I think at that price I will wait. Has the price gone down in your area? Can we blame that on the Russians? Stan

Local always the lowest around.

Steel prices have dropped again. Our current July ferrous prices are:
Shred/cars- $3.25 per hundred
Unprepared steel- $5.40 per hundred
Prepared steel- $6.40 per hundred
UPS- $6.20 per hundred
3ft PS- $6.65 per hundred
Cast iron- $6.60 per hundred
Copper is also trending down. Our current copper prices are:
Barebright- $3.05 per pound
#1 Cu- #3.00 per pound
#2 Cu- #2.70 per pound

Yes Russian Russian Russian

About 2 weeks ago light iron and mix went to a penny a pound. There are places that pay more, but they are 10,000
pound minimum, and you have to be able to dump,or unload with a picker. No hand unloading. They do unload big
stuff, dozers, cranes, excavators, etc, but you are talking 10 ton and up for the most part.

I think the blame goes to China.

When China was building a lot our scrap rusty tin was $200 about 10 years ago.

China's economy is pulling back again.

Many reasons..A Housing bubble. Lockdowns.

Just my opinion..

If the war stops, there will be a lot of scrap metal in Ukraine.

I talked to a yard owner this morning,he is paying 145.00 a ton for shred,30 miles away they are paying 110.00. Some of the yards just don't want any, so they pay less.

I'm not buying the whole Russian thing fro all these issues. Has more to do with the current fool. You can't spend your way to prosperity like they think. That is what is going on and that is driving all thing up that and no oil leases/drilling. Like fuel was going up fast before this whole 2 bad guys shooting at each other.

I agree. China has been a major buyer of our scrap. Big run-ups in scrap price in the past have been linked to significant exports especially to China.

There's also a seasonality to this, at least in my neighborhood. Seems like it is worth the most in Feb and March and goes down in the early summer. Let's face it- people are a lot more likely to pull scrap in when the weather is nice vs break it loose from a snow drift.
