TD8e Dozier right track no power

When I try to turn left it will not. I thought something was wrong with turning brake. I believe the right track is just not pulling

There is a high probability that the left track clutch is not releasing. If it turns right when the right lever is pulled, and goes straight
when the levers are hands off, the right track clutch is working correctly. To turn, that dozer uses three components. The first is that it
has no differential, it is solid, both tracks get equal power through the ring and pinion drive and finals. Between the ring and pinion is a
large multi plate track clutch (one on each side, driving one track each). Around this clutch is (IIRC) a band brake that attaches to the
lever and foot brake on that side. Pulling the left hand lever a few inches releases the multi disc clutch on the left track. this stops power
from going to the left track. The right track is still under power, so the machine now drifts left if just traveling or turns left if pushing
or pulling a load, but not sharp left. Pulling the lever back farther hard causes the band brake to grip the left clutch housing slowing it
(or stopping it). if more braking is needed, the foot brake on that side just adds to the effort on the left turn lever, stopping the track.
the clutch is not releasing on that left side. it is a major task to access the track clutches. they are heavy and require special tools to
disassemble as they have a radical coil spring inside each one. I have owned a TD-18A with that problem, and fixed it. It was left in a creek
on the left side and got water in the left clutch and final drive. Like yours it only turned one way. Parts can be found, or just cleaned up
and reassembled if OK. I would guess the feel of the levers are about equal when pulling them back, indicating that the release bearings are
both adjusted OK. Jim

Hello JM welcome to YT. I thought I was going to be
able to provide you a site that would give you access
to view a repair manual for your machine. However, the
site ..see link.. does not have this available for your
model. The do have them for the IH T4, T6 and T9 and
larger models like Jim is referring to. I am not sure
where your machine falls but it was produced during
the time right after Dresser bought out the IH
construction equipment side of the company. The
company in the link may be able to supply you clutches
for your machine if this is the problem, but I do not
know for sure since they do not list your model. The
operation Jim has described is correct, but I think it is
very possible that the steer/brake clutch configuration
varies from the other true IH T series machines. Wow,
this must be turning into a construction equipment
forum, 4 for the day! All post activity is good here in
my book, unless it is OT and not machinery related.

Thank you so much for replying an answer. My machine has one brake pedal on the right only. The left pedal is just an
"Engine idle" or neutral. I don t know the proper term. When I attempt to turn left, the left turning brake works and the left track stops, but it is just like I have pressed the neutral pedal, nothing from the right track. If I push on anything that gives resistance, the left track will spin and nothing from the right. I adjusted the brake adjustment lock nut on each side at the one o clock position behind the drive sprocket. The right track would actually allow me to turn about 2 or three times before it gave up. It really just seemed to tighten up the one brake pedal located on the right side. Today I removed the bottom skid plate. There seems to be a pretty good hydraulic leak. I can t quite tell where from yet as it s all greasy and coated now. I ll get it cleaned up and pinpointed and ask about that once I see it.

With the new information I can say the right track clutch has an issue with two or three possible causes. The oil leak you describe could be
causing the slippage. The fiber discs may be too thin or delaminated causing no drive, or the release bearing could be out of adjustment allowing
the clutch to be almost released all the time. If you experiment a little the adjustment issue can be detected as follows: while driving
forward, pull the right lever just a tiny bit. As you feel the tractor direction change. if a very small movement of the lever causes a right
turn, the adjustment may be suspect. If it takes an inch or more, probably not. Oil must be out of that chamber. Jim

All right NO fiber disk your td8 is a planetary steer unit. IT need adjusting but has to be done
in proper sequence, you need the service manual but if you will e-mail me a good phone number I
will be glad to talk you thru it. Just too much to type here and it is important that is is done
right. Can have it fixed in 20 minutes,, send me the phone number

jm. was absolutely 100% correct. He called me up and walked me through the process. It was exactly as he described. It was no different than if he were standing over my shoulder showing me what to do. 20 minutes later, my dozier was running the best it had since the day I bought it!! I spent the rest of the day slicking up things around the property! Thanks so much!-
