DR 3 pt. Weed eater

Any of you fellows out there ever use a DR 3-point mounted weed eater?
I have a small enough Kubota that it would fit on. Looks like it would be great for
fence lines and ditch banks.
Any info, good or bad is appreciated.

I looked at them and wasn't impressed by the price or the reviews.

Then I built this. Works very well, only change I'd make if I were to do it again is to make the cutter head pivot so I could tip it down over the edge of ditchbanks.

Take a look at the wright fence mower. I think they are a little better built. Dont think either would do much with ditches.

If you go offset flail to mow the ditches, I believe Peruzzo makes a hydraulic trimmer attachment that goes on the edge of the mower.

Thanks!

That's actually Version 2, based on lessons learned from V1. Mostly getting the string head speed up and a better gearbox.

The original gearbox was used and mounted upside down with a cobbled-together driveshaft. Worked okay as proof-of-concept, but not surprisingly (in retrospect) it failed due to lubrication issues.

I had a craftsman string trimmer on wheels.
I hated it. The strings didn't last.
Hit a fence post, hit a rock and say goodbye to the string.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Very interesting and informative.
There is one posted on craigs list nearby. Yesterday it was $550, today it is $700!!!
I like the looks of both the Titian and Wright set-ups, but I didn't want to spend
quite that much money. (OK, so I'm cheap....frugal?? LOLOL)
Still not sure what I'm gonna do. Probably nothing.
Also gently looking for a flail mower.

Dad had one. he got it for trimming around the white vinyl fencing. He tried it but didn't like the way it marked the white fence. He was going to make something to solve that problem but never got a round to it.

i thought it would be handy at the farmstead so i tried it one day at the folks. seemed to work ok but not great and seemed hard to keep the tractor in line and close enough to the posts to work. i'm sure practice would help but wasn't too impressed and figured i could weed wack most of it by hand by the time i fooled with mounting it and driving slow and going back to hit what i missed ect ect. It would probably be a bit on the small side for the IH 444 as well.

in a case with heavier growth around the fence posts like my FIL's place maybe it would be a better idea.
