j d 830 starter

Can someone explain if it is possible to use two 12v batteries instead of four 6v batteries in an electric start j d 830 and if so, how to connect them and where they are connected to the starter. Thanks for any help.

I have been doing that in my 720 for years now. Just hook the cables going to the starter to the same battery + or - posts like they are now. Then just hook the 2 12 volts together in the middle + and - to make 24 v and depending on how you are wired it should have a light gauge wire to frame ground going off the cable connecting the 2 batteries together.

use only one 12 volt , keep it simple. what do you mean where are they connected to the starter. follow the cable.

That's not gonna work real well with the 24 Volt starter and generator, IMHO.

Wiring schematic below is for a 4020 with 24 volt system but the principles the same. Battery cable(item 27) is negative battery post & cable(item 28) is for positive post

iirc there is a diagram in the operator s manual .
Use the highest CCA batteries that will cram into the battery box .

I'll bet there isn't a wiring diagram in 830 operator's manual equipped with 2 cyl engine describing attaching two(2) twelve volt batteries similar to what ghunziker is requesting.

While I don t own a 820/830 operator s manual . Odds are the 840 operator s manual is similar .

Still suffering from Long Vid . A multitude of symptoms .
May have had a few mini strokes during the pulmonary embolisms. Having challenges to remember somethings .
Coordination and perception have been affected. Oddly enough I never lost my sense of smell and taste.
Still planning on a road trip to visit you someday .
