How much is too burnt

Going to be looking at a burnt tractor this coming week, how much would too burnt be? I m assuming if the oil looks clear I might be safe. It looks like the tires didn t burn off.

It doesn't look that bad from the pic, but
also hard to say from a pic. What was the
cause? Just guessing, maybe electrical or
dry debris on or near the manifold?

I would not be afraid to try to save it.

Probably didn't get too hot to damage vital components.

How long ago did it burn? My concern would be water in the cylinders if it has
sat for a month or longer.

That looks like something I would take on. That sure takes the profit out of that hay field. I had a tractor catch fire, If it hadn't been for my fire
extinguisher I would have probably ended up like that. Stan

Tractor values are increasing, but so is the cost of parts and shop rates. In field ready condition will it be a $6,000 tractor or a $60,000 tractor?

If any aluminum parts melted on the engine or near the
rear end I would forget that one, although it does not
look like it got real hot. They must have had steel fuel
tanks and fuel lines of the tank was nearly empty.
Secondly, unless you know the engine was recently
overhauled it could cavitate the cylinder walls a month
after you got it all fixed up, in fact it could even do it if
it had been overhauled. Those Ford sleeveless parent
bore engines were known for that. Proper coolant and
conditioner does hold it a bay fairly well. My guess is if
you bought it for scrap price by the time you are all set
and done you could have bought another comparable
one ready to go in the field for the same money or less.

I would not hesitate to take that on.
I saved this one.
It burned off all the peripherals but did
not hurt the vital parts at all.
I had a parts tractor and had the burned
one up and running in one weekend.

Mabey just me but it looks like that got fairly warm. 4 blown tires. Probably a melted turbo and two hydraulic pumps. Lot of stuff
on that platform including the steering motor that might not be easy to obtain and certainly will not be cheap. I'm sure you could
fix it, but it won't be a cheap, easy fix. 7710's were not that rare.... I mean it's not like there were only 30 of them made.
Find a good working example and price it... then price out the repairs on this one. You'd need to get this one for the same price
as the scrap man with free hauling....

I bought a 1996 Deere that had had an electrical fire, very limited actual fire damage. By 2007, I ran into several parts NLA from Deere and fitment issues with some that were still available. Some of the parts I needed were not due to the fire as much as how it had been treated both before and after the issue. Still have not remounted the cab on account of missing parts that support the windshield, and laziness.

I am well under the current value of the tractor in parts and paid repairs, not counting my time.

The only really bad thing about these is the expense of replacing four tires and possibly the rims. Tires suddenly got real expensive years ago and now with this rampant inflation the sky is the limit. An alternator is not too bad or most sheet metal. It does add up.

Yrs ago while employed at a dealership I agreed to rebuild a burnt JD 4020 that a gentleman had borrowed from his neighbor to unload rd bales with frt end loader. After engine rebuild & repairing hyd components tractor was painted & delivered to owner. I thought nI would never get all the hyd leaks repaired & everything functioning as designed.

Long story/short story NEVER AGAIN would I attempt repairing a burnt tractor

I wouldn t be afraid of the mechanicals, if it has the deluxe remotes the remotes and injection pump will be the big money items to replace
It would be a great parts donor or possibly a good replacement driveline for one that s been well used

I agree with Jim,,don't start on it,,,it will be a never ending battle....Been there,,done that...

Well UD, going to call you out a bit this time. You had a parts tractor I do not hear this guy saying anything of the like. Apples and oranges in my book, yep I am a little feisty today, must be my American pride bubbling up a little. Have a great 4th!

We ended up not looking at the tractor. It ended up getting sold before we could look at it. The only history I knew on it was that it burned 3 years ago. Either than that the tractor ran. Happy 4th
