White 2-105 PTO shift rail

Hi All,

I've got a White 2-105 and the PTO shift rail seems stuck.

I went from 540 to 1000, no problem. Used implement, came back a few months later, went from 1000 to 540 and thought I had the rail in 540. Hooked up bailer..and it seemed like maybe it was going a bit fast.

Monkeyed around with it and I cannot get the rail to move in any direction (in or out) with the 1K shaft in. Book says all shifting to be done with 1K shaft in.. Well.. thinking really hard, I can't swear that when I initially went back to 540 that I remembered that, but I do remember thinking I had it shifted, but maybe I missed the groove with the lock bolt and it moved around in the bore.

I also can't remember; in 540 how much of the collar sticks out of the housing? I found a Losey video with a 1755 and the housing is different but in 540 there is 1/2 inch of the shift rail that seems to be out of the housing; is it rougly the same for the 105?

I've read you can't have 1kRPM engaged with the 540 shaft; but it spins the implement awful fast for me not to believe that it isn't running fast...and it appears the rail is in not out.

Ideas?

Joe

Yes, shift rail out for 540. On my neighbor's 2-85 I sometimes have to turn the PTO back and forth while moving the shift rail. Make sure the lock bolt is backed out enough too. I threaded in a bolt with lock nut to use as a handle on his shift rail to make it easier.

Boy, I went out and looked at it again hard and worked on it.

It will not budge outwards or inwards no matter how much twisting I do of the PTO shaft (1K shaft is in).

It had the 540 in and I think I either didn't get it shifted out of 1K, or, it walked back into 1K with the 540 in.

I haven't been wailing on it. Does somebody have an exploded diagram of just what this looks like inside so I have a picture in my mind? What could be wedged here?

Thanks,

J

Found a rebuild video from Chris L. for a 2250. Helps me visualize whats inside.

Thats helpful, but, I can't get mine to budge either direction with either shaft in.

What's odd is that I'm 99% sure mine is stuck in 1K position and the 540 shaft goes in.

I can't see how that could be, unless it's possible for the pin which blocks the shift collar from going into 1K when the longer 540 shaft is in can end up on the wrong side of the shift collar, so you're in 1K *and* you have to line up the splines *and* get the shift collar over the pin while pulling the shift rail forward.

I don't see how the pin could escape. I don't see that the plunger at the back of the PTO housing is moving in or out, either, it appears that it's pushed all the way back, as if the 540 shaft were in. I suppose the snap ring at the back of the shaft could have come out, but that seems unlikely.

Off to do more recon and fussing.
